Niloofar Adnani

Special Report: Sanctions and the Disruption Of Children's Education In Baluchistan, Iran

Focusing on disadvantaged communities in Iran's Baluchistan region, Niloofar's multidisciplinary research aims to study the impact of sanctions on communities in Iran’s periphery. Her research paper for the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, based on extensive interviews, illuminates the impact of sanctions on child education in Baluchistan. Niloofar received her grant while a pursuing a master’s degree in global affairs from the University of Notre Dame. She is now a PhD student at Johns Hopkins SAIS.

Timothy Doner

Special Report: Iran in Central Asia

Building on his thesis research on Iran-Kazakhstan relations, Timothy assembled the first major study of Iran's relations with the Central Asian republics, challenging the perception of the Middle East and Central Asia as wholly distinct political and economic entities. Timothy received his MPhil in Politics and International Relations from Cambridge University. He holds a BA from Harvard University where he majored in Near Eastern Languages and Civilisations.

Marcus Solarz Hendriks

Special Report: The Development of Iran's Non-Oil Exports, 1990-2011

Marcus has written a first-of-its-kind report examining the key drivers behind the growth of Iranian non-oil exports between 1990 and 2011. His research analyses the decade-long periods before and after the year 2000 to understand why Iranian efforts to develop non-oil exports floundered in the first period and succeeded in the second. Marcus is a final year undergraduate student of Arabic, Persian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge. He is a senior committee member of Cambridge’s Middle East and North Africa Forum (MENAF). He has previously worked as an open-source analyst on Iran for IHS Markit’s Country Risk desk.

Peter Noack

Survey Research: Measuring Natural Disaster Literacy in Tehran

While a master’s student Philipps-University Marburg, Peter conducted research on disaster preparedness in Iran. In support of his master’s thesis, the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation provided funding to enable Peter to conduct a representative survey of Tehran residents in order to measure their “disaster literacy” and to understand whether socioeconomic factors impact the preparedness of Tehran residents for disaster scenarios. The findings of this research can help policymakers design better mitigation and preparedness programs.

Kyle Olson

Article Series: American Sanctions vs. Iranian Heritage

Kyle’s doctoral dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania studied the intersection of geopolitics and archaeology in Iran. For the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, Kyle wrote a five-part article series entitled “American Sanctions vs. Iranian Heritage,” which traced the impacts of sanctions on heritage management and heritage tourism in Iran. Kyle also organised a webinar bringing together experts from the United States, Europe, and Iran to discuss the future of academic and cultural exchanges with Iran in the face of sanctions.

 

Ezana Tedla

Article: The Shadow of Sanctions in Istanbul’s Housing Market

Ezana received financial support from the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation to conduct field research on the impact of sanctions in Istanbul’s housing market in the summer of 2023. His research, conducted with support from the Department of Economics at Yale University, involved research interviews and data collection. Ezana’s findings are previewed in an article published by the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation.
