About the Opportunity:

The Bourse & Bazaar Foundation is seeking a policy fellow to support its research and advocacy on issues related to green growth, sustainability policy, and climate adaptation. The policy fellow will be a core team member of a new initiative titled the Rihla Initiative for Green Economic Growth, which aims to mobilize capital from the Gulf, especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to support the green transition and green growth in the Global South. The policy fellow will enjoy significant independence and freedom to define their own research agenda so long as the proposed area of research and advocacy fits within the initiative’s main areas of focus. The ideal candidate is an individual with the ability to apply creative and interdisciplinary approaches to identify policy dilemmas and propose solutions. Candidates should have a research background that covers topics related to sustainable development and climate change mitigation. The fellow’s duties will include:

  • Research: Produce reports, analytical articles, and policy memos on topics relevant to green growth, sustainability policy, and climate adaptation, with a focus on the Gulf region, especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Develop policy recommendations at the intersection of development finance and climate diplomacy with a view to accelerating the green transition in the Global South.

  • Engagement: Lead, present, or participate in conferences, workshops, meetings, and conferences. Brief policymakers on initiative activities and research findings. Engage with regional and international media as a thought leader to explain and disseminate research and raise public awareness.

  • Administration: Participate in the design and implementation of the initiative including in setting research priorities and coordinating activities with initiative partners. Co-author grants and funding proposals. The initiative is embarking on a multi-year project on the history and practice of green industrial policy.

The fellow will be employed as a part-time consultant and will be afforded considerable flexibility to manage their own schedule. However, the fellow is expected to allocate a minimum of 2.5 days per week during the 9-month contract period. The role can be complimentary to academic studies or other research or professional roles.

Eligibility

Applications are open to individuals who have received a masters or doctoral degree relevant to the understanding of policy issues inherent in green growth and climate adaptation. Ideal applicants will have demonstrable experience in analytical writing and policy research—work experience in a research institute or think tank is a bonus, but not necessary. Applicants must have the ability to write in advanced English. However, candidates who also possess Arabic language skills will be favoured. There are no citizenship restrictions and the job is remote, but applicants based in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council will be preferred.
